David De La Torre

I am the Secretary-Treasurer of the Laborers' International Union of North America Local 261 and a third generation Laborer, joining local 261 in February of 1991. I worked as a general laborer for several general contractors until working for Swinerton Builders, where I worked in several capacities as a general laborer, laborer foreman, assistant superintendent and then as a superintendent.

My responsibilities as an officer for Local 261 increased throughout the years starting as an auditor, executive board member, recording secretary and now as secretary treasurer. I also sit on other industry related boards including as president of the A. Philip Randolph Institute (APRI) in San Francisco; APRI National Vice President and Executive Board member; trustee to the San Mateo Building Trades Council, delegate to the Northern California District Council of Laborers; San Francisco and San Mateo Labor Councils; San Francisco and San Mateo Building Trades Councils; and previously as a commissioner on the Contractors’ State Licensing Board (CSLB.)

I am seeking a delegate seat to help ensure that the Democratic Party remains a  progressive, innovative political institution that focuses on engagement and mobilizing efforts to support economic mobility and social justice.
